Heritage Damp Solutions was founded on a single conviction: that the buildings which matter most deserve assessment free from any commercial interest in the works that follow. We do not sell remediation treatments. We do not carry damp-proofing products. We are surveyors, not contractors.

The consequences of a misdiagnosed moisture problem in a listed or pre-Victorian building can be severe — inappropriate modern treatments strip lime plasterwork, damage historic timber, and mask the true cause of a problem without resolving it. Our work begins with patient observation, empirical measurement, and a thorough understanding of how historic building fabric breathes.

Our reports are written to inform and equip — whether you are a property owner making decisions about your home, or an architect preparing a conservation management plan. Every recommendation we make is grounded in the principles of minimal intervention and the preservation of original fabric.

What We Do

Our Services

Each service is delivered with the same commitment to technical integrity and conservation principle. We do not offer a standard commercial damp survey.

  1. Independent Damp Survey

    A comprehensive, methodology-led survey of moisture conditions in historic or period buildings. We identify sources, mechanisms, and extent without any interest in what remediation works follow.

    Suitable for listed buildings, pre-Victorian properties, and any structure where invasive modern treatments carry risk to original fabric.

  2. Conservation Assessment Report

    A detailed written assessment prepared to conservation standards — suitable for submission to local planning authorities, conservation officers, and heritage organisations.

    Referenced to SPAB, Historic England, and BS 7913 guidance. Accepted by planning authorities across England and Wales.

  3. Remediation Guidance

    Specification and oversight of appropriate, minimal-intervention remediation works, working with your chosen contractor rather than our own. We guide — we do not supply.

    We can review contractor specifications, advise on lime-compatible repair methods, and provide quality oversight without commercial conflict.

  4. Expert Witness & Litigation Support

    Independent expert evidence in property disputes, insurance claims, and legal proceedings involving damp, moisture damage, or inappropriate historic building works.

    CPR Part 35 compliant reports. Experience in arbitration, RICS dispute resolution, and High Court proceedings.

  5. Professional Consultancy

    Retained consultancy for architects, conservation officers, and building surveyors working on heritage projects. Technical input at design stage, during works, and at completion.

    We work alongside your team as a specialist sub-consultant — available for site visits, desk reviews, and peer assessment of existing reports.
